How I export my car reels

My workflow from the DaVinci Resolve timeline to the final Instagram upload.

Export from DaVinci Resolve

After finishing the edit and color grade in DaVinci Resolve, I start with a standard 1080p export from the Deliver page. I use Resolve’s automatic bitrate instead of setting a custom limit.

RenderSingle clip
FormatMP4
CodecH.264
Resolution1080 × 1920
Frame rateMatch timeline
QualityAutomatic · Best
AudioAAC · 48 kHz
I watch the exported file once before continuing. I check the color, audio, framing, and any text near the top or bottom of the reel.
02

Upscale in Topaz Video AI

This step is optional. I load the 1080p export into Topaz Video AI and upscale it when I want a little more clarity in the details of the car.

Input1080 × 1920
Output2160 × 3840
Frame rateKeep original
EnhancementKeep it subtle
Compare before and after. Upscaling does not improve every clip. Too much enhancement can make paint, trees, and small details look unnatural.
03

Open it in Instagram Edits

I import the final file into the Instagram Edits app. If I used Topaz, I import the upscaled version. Otherwise, I use the original Resolve export.

  • Check that the reel still fills the 9:16 frame
  • Watch for any color or exposure changes
  • Confirm that the audio is in sync
  • Avoid adding another filter or grade
04

Export and post from Edits

I choose the highest quality available in the Edits app, export the reel, and post it to Instagram from the same app. In my workflow, this gives Instagram the best version of the video before it applies its own compression.

  • Select the highest export quality available
  • Choose a sharp frame for the cover
  • Keep important details away from the interface areas
  • Post directly through the Edits app
Instagram can still compress the upload. I keep the original Resolve export so I always have a clean master outside the app.
